Democrats, Liberals and Progressives have long asserted that the Tea Party was fueled by racism. But the evidence has always seemed, well, anecdotal. An occasional Obama-as-a-monkey sign here, a Rebel flag there. But it never gelled into a conclusive case that the mainstream media could buy into.
Now, there is evidence. A Gallup Poll conducted last week shows that 82% of Tea Party members find Newt Gingrich acceptable as the GOP nominee.
Wait a minute! The Tea Party is supposed to stand against Washington insiders, supporters of the welfare state, politicians who use the tax code for social engineering, social policy experts who advocate mandates in a national health care system, and against politicians who go to Washington poor and stay for thirty years and become multi-millionaires by feeding at the government trough.
By that standard, Newt Gingrich is a much, much bigger devil than Barack Obama. Other than the fact that Gingrich embodies much more that is evil in the world compared to Obama according to the Tea Party is there any other difference between Gingrich and Obama? Only one: race.
The fig leaf has come off of the Tea Party and it now stands naked: the only thing left is an ugly hand-scrawled note that says “we hate the black guy in the White House and we will back anyone and anything to get him out.”
Even Glenn Beck has come to this conclusion. Here are Beck’s own words:
“If you have a big government progressive, or a big government progressive in Obama… ask yourself this, Tea Party: is it about Obama’s race? Because that’s what it appears to be to me. If you’re against him but you’re for this guy, it must be about race. I mean, what else is it? It’s the policies that matter.”
And this time, I’m happy to give Beck the final word.
