The title of this diary refers to the award-winning Girl Genius on line graphic novel/gaslamp fantasy of a decidedly steampunk flavor. I bring it up today because I think you can take today's installment as evidence of how Occupy Wall Street has added some new flavors to the pop-culture koolaid. Right smack in the middle of today's graphic is... a CREDIT UNION! When was the last time you saw one of those in the middle of a Mad Science world of megalomaniacs, fantastic machines, and epic battles?
Even better, it caters to a special segment of the population - monsters and constructs (Man/Machine hybrids, etc.) There's a sign on the building with their motto: By monsters, For monsters. It just goes to show - even abominations of the natural order and offenses against the laws of Science have their scruples. They have choices! They don't have to let their money support the real monsters, the Vampire Squids of the Financial Sector.
Now the larger scene found at this link shows it's part of a two page spread. Mechanicsburg is under attack, and the Jager Monsters (biologically altered super soldiers) are rallying to defend the town. They've got mad infiltration skilz!
While you can't compare them to Occupy Wall Street protestors who have eschewed violence even in the face of real provocation, they do have this in common. There's more to OWS out there than just occupying parks; for every visible protestor there are plenty more in sympathy taking action to change things.
If you haven't moved your money yet, what's keeping you?
