A few days ago I opened this site and saw The Message -- I, too, had been gifted with a lifetime subscription by an anonymous benefactor! I was surprised and pleased and disgruntled and shy all at the same time -- and also sniffling and coughing and sneezing and... well, you get the picture. I was not at my best!
That didn't stop me from smiling some at the thought that, even though I had indicated that I didn't need my name on the list of those needing a subscription, someone went ahead and got me one anyway. It did, however, stop me from writing a "thank you" note right away because... well, I didn't know who it was, so it had to be a diary. Written by me! That takes lots of build up and running on all cylinders ;)
I stress over writing diaries... which is, of course, a bit odd since I write for a living, but still. That's different. I stress over what to say about things like this. Should I talk about feelings, should I try to be witty (not my forte), should I tell a story, should I say "oh, you shouldn't have"?
Aha. I know the answer to the last question, as a few wise and wonderful people recently gave me a talking to about karma, paying back, paying forward and allowing people to do a kindness for themselves by doing a kindness for others.
So, I will just keep it simple. Whoever you are, thank you for your gift and your kindness. I will gratefully add it to my store of kindnesses to pay forward.
