All the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office had to do was tell the jury in the O.J. Simpson case that he was guilty and rest its case...and I think they would've won. But no, they had to trot out impeachable witness after impeachable witness and cap it off by dragging out some stupid gloves that didn't fit and.... Oh well, you know that story.
Given the dismal state of our economy, the GOP is blowing what should be a slam dunk victory in the 2012 presidential election by overplaying its hand in terms of disagreeing with anything President Obama is for -- even a tax cut. I'm obviously referring to the way House Republicans rejected the Senate-passed payroll tax cut extension. It's like they're dragging out their own versions of gloves that don't fit.
It makes you wonder if they're just plain stupid, ideologically challenged or just so blinded by their hate of the President that they're willing to risk everything (including America's economic recovery) just to embarrass and harass him to the point of exposing themselves as the hateful idiots they really are. They're showing that they really don't care about the welfare of this nation or its citizens. As Senator McConnell so brazenly and notoriously said: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
Talk about overplaying your hand. No need to say that. At least pretend to want to work with the President for the benefit of the country. At least say publicly that you're hoping to find common ground. But not these guys. And I'm thinking Americans who thought about voting GOP are growing tired of them.
Even the Wall Street Journal's editorial board believes the GOP officials are helping push Americans toward voting for President Obama and the Democrats. Here's an excerpt from an editorial they published recently:
Given how he and House Speaker John Boehner have handled the payroll tax debate, we wonder if they might end up re-electing the President before the 2012 campaign even begins in earnest.
The GOP leaders have somehow managed the remarkable feat of being blamed for opposing a one-year extension of a tax holiday that they are surely going to pass. This is no easy double play.
Republicans have also achieved the small miracle of letting Mr. Obama position himself as an election-year tax cutter…
Given the Republicans' propensity to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, perhaps the best strategy for the President and the Dems is to just sit back and watch them self-destruct.
