If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it to topcomments at gmail by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!

Casa Brillig spent Christmas and the day after at Mr. Brillig's folks' house, with his sister and her family there too. Don't get me wrong, I always have a good time -I scored amazingly well in the Relatives-By-Marriage Sweepstakes. Watching his parents and sisters interact, however, I always get wistful and just a little bit jealous, because it's been a long time since I got to enjoy that with my own parents, who passed away in 1990 (Dad) and 2001 (Mom).
This year I saw the emotions coming, and talked to a friend about it. My friend suggested I look at it from another direction... instead of being sad about what I can't have, take the time as an opportunity to build those kinds of memories with my OWN daughter. I stopped short, ran that around my brain a few times, and had to admit it was an awfully good way out of a sad moment.
So I have been. I hope one day my daughter remembers a Christmas 'back when she was younger' in which she and her Mom talked about all sorts of stuff, went to the MALL and bargain hunted together, and generally had a wonderful holiday. My son, well... I hope he remembers that Mommy found for him the Very Best Dance Video Ever. He loves this stuff :).
I do hope they look back kindly on the requirement that they make their beds and clean their rooms, as my gentle push towards well-balanced development. ::grin::

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From gooderservice:
frandor55's quote of a 75 year old on the state of the country is my nom for top comment.
From emeraldmaiden:
elfling recounts a story of being saved by the tape during a trip. I have friends with ASD kids, and I can so relate to the struggles and the small triumphs (well, reasonably well, since I am childless) that happen daily.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
The Newt Divorce Filing diary by Craig Hardegree is, as Sharoney commented, great reporting work. G2geek furthered that thought while refuting the bloggers aren't journalists meme.
Something the Dog Said's diary on credibility generated this one by savvyspy. It gets my nom for the first words: "I don't agree with you but I can never fault someone who stands up for credibility and honor."
Sometimes it's not the actual comment, itself. It's that the commenter, in this case Adam B, has posted 49,999 previous comments. ::looks at own tiny 4-digit comment list:: I pity the Kossack who ever tries to search through his comment list...
