Tomorrow's a big day for me.
I travel to meet an expectant mother in a nearby town and to discuss her impeding birth.
I envision an exciting early morning drive, drinking my cup of coffee and meeting the young mom with her midwife to discuss birthing plans.
I am her doula.
From there we will go to the hospital and have a look at the facilities there. She wants a water birth, and expects to be in command of her baby's birth. No laying down in a hospital bed in such a position that in most cases slows down the birth process. No this mom expects, I believe, to walk, to immerse herself in the birth room's tub, and to use natural means of helping her experience her contractions as nature's way of bringing baby into mom's arms.
