I confess -- I'm not personally (or even with 105 fellow Kossacks!) going to stop the war in Afghanistan. But I really would like to remind the Administration that people have not forgotten about a hopeless quagmire that needlessly costs $100 billion a year and thousands of American lives, not to mention who-knows-how-many Afghani lives.
I now have 45 signatures on my petition at 'We The People' to propose that the Administration halt military operations and withdraw all combat forces from Afghanistan by October 1, 2012. If I can get just 105 more signatures the petition will become visible to the world at large. If it then reaches 5000 signatures, which I find likely if it becomes visible given the subject matter, the administration promises a response.
If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will review it, make sure it gets to the appropriate policy officials, and issue an official response.
There isn't a single petition that has to do with the Afghanistan War or Defense spending in general -- one of the biggest outlays of the Federal Government -- that is visible at this time.
The administration runs a $100 billion dollar war overseas and no one even talks about it any more. Not Congress, not (most) Democrats. Barely even a peep from the Republican candidates for President. It's time, I think, someone at least asked the President about what the hell he is doing over there. This is a way to do it.
No, I don't think I'm a nut, or Dr. Pangloss. I have no expectation of this causing the Administration to suddenly say 'Doh! WTF are we doing? Let's get out immediately!'. But I still think we should nudge them.
So please
create yourself an account if you haven't already, then please sign this petition.
While you're at it, other Kossacks and I have created a bunch of other petitions you might be interested in signing. Once you're logged in to the site, it's very easy to sign petitions, bang, bang, one after another. Below is a list of all the petitions I know about created by other Kossacks and myself.
Note: I know some people have had trouble creating or account, or logging in once they've done so, or signing petitions once they've logged in. Some who've had this trouble have said that it's cleared up now. Since I'm not having these problems I can only hope that they've been resolved. I did send a note via their 'contact' form to let whomever is at the other end of it know that people had been reporting these problems.
All Kossack-initiated Petitions I Know About.
If there are more Kossack-initiated petitions please let me know and I will add them to the list.
You can read more about the new Kossack Initiated White House Petitions group's efforts to get some serious, actionable, progressive petitions front-and-center on the We The People site to draw the Administration's attention to and to get a response from.
Thank you!
