Really did you believe that the thrust of of Canada's dirty oil sands was to bring more oil to the US to bring down prices and increase jobs? If you believed that you have been had. The US is now exporting oil and prices are not going down. No, what Canada wants to do with it's dirty tar sands oil is to ship it across the Pacific to China who is a ready eager customer. It wanted to carry it's dirty oil via the Keystone XL pipeline across the fragile US Midwest, over the Ogallala aquifer the major source of fresh water for drinking and irrigation for 8 states effectively using the US as a sewage line to get it's oil overseas. But the US is wising up to their scheme and is delaying approval of the XL pipeline.
So now the truth comes out. The Canadian's have gone to the source and are selling off parcels of their Athabasca Sands Corp. directly to China.
TORONTO--PetroChina, Asia's largest oil and gas company, will take full ownership of the MacKay River oil sands project in Canada after Athabasca Oil Sands Corp announced Tuesday it sold the remaining 40% of the development for US$673 million.
The deal continues a trend that has seen China's state-owned oil companies invest billions of dollars in exploration or production ventures in Canada, Africa, Latin America and elsewhere. It gives PetroChina full control of one of Alberta's newest oil sands developments. Athabasca had previously sold PetroChina a 60% stake in two oil sands projects owned by Athabasca.
There should be no doubt left as to the reason Canada was trying to build the XL pipeline across the US. It was to carry the dirty tar sands oil to ports and then to ship it across the world.
Canada's only major oil export market is the U.S. But with the product of oil sands and pipeline delivery to the U.S. under perennial clouds of environmental objections, and with Asian demand growing, Canada wants to diversify its market, and China is eager to oblige.
So there you have it. No need to continue lying about the real reason for the XL pipeline. Now with open threats being issued to President Obama regarding his February deadline for decision, I think the President has enough reason and cover to reject the XL pipeline for good.
