Little smaller but more determined crowd brought sleeping bags today.
The sit-in outside the office of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel resumed shortly after 8:00 a.m. on January 5, 2012, following the end of the event by 6:00 p.m. the previous night. According to participants, Chicago police refused to allow participants in the sit-in to use City Hall washrooms after business hours ended on January 4, and protesters who said they intended to stay the night were told they would be arrested if they refused to leave the building. Anyone who left City Hall was barred from reentry.
Rahm ordered police to throw away all the chairs used for seniors and people with disabilities. When citizens went to makes complaint no one in city hall allowed them to file a complaint of the loss of private property and hardship on elderly and people of disabilities.
The resumption of the protest at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday January 5 was immediately marred by an escalation of police tactics. According to participants, police removed the chairs that protesters had brought to the fifth floor hallway, forcing participants to either sit on the floor or stand.
