Vote Counter Ed True of Moulton, Iowa was shocked to discover that state totals gave Romney 22 votes when he actually won only 2 in the small conservative town. Romney who apparently won by 8 votes may have actually lost by 12.
Edward True, 28, of Moulton, said he helped count the votes and jotted the results down on a piece of paper to post to his Facebook page. He said when he checked to make sure the Republican Party of Iowa got the count right, he said he was shocked to find they hadn't.
"When Mitt Romney won Iowa by eight votes and I've got a 20-vote discrepancy here, that right there says Rick Santorum won Iowa," True said. "Not Mitt Romney."
True said at his 53-person caucus at the Garrett Memorial Library, Romney received two votes. According to the Iowa Republican Party's website, True's precinct cast 22 votes for Romney.
"This is huge," True said. "It essentially changes who won."

Yes, Rick Santorum, may have won Iowa, not Mitt Romney.
Tweet seen at the Concord Monitor from Nate Silver of the 538 blog at the New York Times:
The story on Romney getting extra votes as a result of a typo looks credible IMO. Romney did very badly in other precincts in that county.
The Iowa Republican Party is trying to squelch the story saying that True wasn't a precinct captain but the story is all over Twitter in New Hampshire. The vote totals of the Iowa caucuses don't mean a damn thing, but the perception that Romney won by an error or by a little help from his friends at party headquarters further damages his credibility and the credibility of the Republican Party.
Pass the popcorn.
Update from the comments. 417els Nails it.
Stand back and see the ABSURDITY of it all.
EIGHT point win? TWELVE point loss?
Millions and millions of dollars spent. Thousands of hours frittered away. All the anguish, hand wringing...Karl pontificating, "analysts" of all stripes soberly enlightening the masses 24/7. Sound bites, memes, propaganda that makes the old Pravda look like a little piker.
A handful of people running around a state in the Midwest (whose claim to political fame is conducting caucuses every four years as the "first presidential primary") saying anything they think Iowans want to hear in order to seduce their votes...CLOWNS whose phantasmagorical egos convince them they are The One chosen by gawd to control the United States of America. All of it so SERIOUS, so IMPORTANT, so MONUMENTAL...ALL of it a tsunami of BLATHER.
Mitt, Newt, Santorum...leftovers...losers from the past who have spent years and years! trying to implant themselves behind the Oval Office desk.
A Republican party which has sunken into such a cesspool of ignorance, hatred and hysteria that the single candidate who is even remotely competent, mature and intelligent enough to occupy the White House (Huntsman) is completely shunned and ignored.
This whole three-ring GOP circus is astonishingly, repulsively absurd. And it has only just begun.
