...this time, it's in Illinois!
Last month, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry failed to get enough signatures to earn a spot on Virginia's primary ballot. The campaigns of Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, and Jon Huntsman never made a serious effort to get on the Virginia ballot. Perry has filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming that Virginia's ballot-access laws are unconstitutional. Gingrich, Huntsman, and Santorum have also joined the lawsuit.
Now, Newt Gingrich's campaign is having serious difficulty obtaining the required number of signatures to get on the GOP primary ballot in Illinois, according to former State Representative and current Danville Alderman Bill Black. Black is listed on Gingrich's 15th Congressional District delegate slate, which has yet to be filed.
Additionally, Rick Santorum's campaign, which didn't even have a ground organization in Illinois until Christmas Eve, is also making a last-minute push to get on the ballot in Illinois and have delegate slates in most of Illinois's congressional districts.
Candidates wishing to file for the Illinois GOP Presidential Primary need 3000 signatures in order to qualify for a spot on the ballot.
Mitt Romney and Ron Paul are already on the GOP Presidental Primary ballot in Illinois.
