A political maxim widely adhered to is that you dance with the ones that brought you. It's a variation on the old joke that an honest politician is one who stays bought. Hence, politicians' associations say something about them.
This evening, I stumbled across an illuminating fact about the campaign manager for a candidate whom I oppose in my local Democratic primary for a Congressional seat held by a first term Republican. The campaign manager is a former staffer and current campaign finance officer for Democrat Ben Nelson, the Senator from [Mutual of Omaha] Nebraska. Not counting Joe Lieberman, it may be that no Democrat in the Senate has done more to facilitate Republican Senate obstruction of progressive programs than Senator Nelson.
The candidate whom I support in the Democratic primary is aligned with a different Senator, Bernie Sanders. My candidate has been endorsed by the co-chairs and other members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, of which Senator Sanders is the lone member from the upper chamber.
Discovery of the other candidate's Ben Nelson connections simply strengthens my resolve to get my progressive nominated and elected. Mail party tomorrow at the satellite HQ at 10 AM.
