Nick has twice before represented Texas in Congress. He was among those who suffered in Delay's mid-decade redistricting, came back to win in TX-22 in 2006 when Delay was forced to resign, but could not hold the seat in 2008. He is running again, this time in Texas-14.
Full disclosure. I consider Nick a friend, even though I am far more progressive than he is on many issues. He is a strong supporter of public education - he was a biology teacher before he first ran for public office, his wife has taught special ed and as I recall his daughter is a teacher.
According to Joel Coon, his campaign manager, "Right now he leads all comers on the GOP side and has no Democratic opponent in the primary. His name recognition is a minimum of 40 points higher than his nearest competitor and his favorability is a minimum of 2:1. All of these things point to Nick having a very strong shot at taking this seat back." But he will need money for the general - there will be a Republican opponent, and support from DCCC is essential.
The DCCC is making its next cut based on contributors as of tonight. Candidates need to reach a minimum of 100 contributors. If you can give even a nominal amount, it can help make a difference. I have given the Netroots indicator of $20.12. The amount is less important than the number of contributors.

Nick is a good guy. I personally vouch for him. You will not always agree with him - heck, I don't. But he is as honest as they come. You can read a bit more about him and his campaign here.
Thanks in advance for anything you can do.
