The discussion that seems to be rambling through all of the Repubs talking points is simply to compare Newt's behavior to that of Clinton's and call it all even. So I say let's do just that!
Let's see if my memory is correct...Bill Clinton as POTUS has an "affair" (BJ) with an intern and it becomes public knowledge. This drives the Republicans crazy given their religous ideology and demand from their base that he be removed from office for such horrible behavior. Not much the Republicans can do except start an investigation since cheating is not an impeachable offense. During this investigation (and countless hours and money) it is basically determined that Clinton lied about what had actually transpired. That lie eventually led to the impeachment process driven solely by the Republicans. So in summary...cheating is so horifically bad that we must remove the POTUS and if we can't do that then impeach him on a technicality on the proper definition of sex.
Now on to Newt...He's had 3 marriages so far and we know for a fact that he cheated on both of his first 2 ex-wives. That alone by Republican definition means he is not fit to serve as POTUS given the same reason that Clinton should have been removed. But by the same definition as above that alone is not an impeachable offense so nothing can be done. But it is also easily proven that ole Newt himself has denied he cheated but that he "asked permission" for an open marriage from his second wife. So now we have our impeachable offense...the lie! Now if Newt was actually POTUS he would have to be impeached not for his maritable infedility but for the lies he told about his infedility. So under the same exact scenario Newt is unfit to serve as POTUS and therefore can not even be considered for the office due to this contemptuous, impeachable behavior!
So I expect we will soon be hearing all of the Republicans who want to compare Newt to Bill get in line now and conduct a full comparison and demand that he be impeached...or in this case determined to be unelectable.
I won't be holding my breath waiting for that news cycle to begin...and honestly it would be much more fun if he were the nominee because we know the women from his past will not stay hidden forever!!
So here's to Newt Gingrich and my hope that he continues his surge in the Republican primary polls and eventually wins the Republican nomination for POTUS. I think not only would we take POTUS again but would have a much stronger position to take back the House and increase seats in the Senate once the real pressure starts in the general election cycle and many "truths" about Newt's past start to find their way out.
