If it wasn't for CU, Newt would have been donewhen he ran out of cash and his staff ran out of patience last year. (And no doubt written off his campaign expenses as book promoting write-offs by now.
But, instead, Newt's super-PAC has brought him back into the game in South Carolina.
01/22/1997: Newt makes history, in the House
Back in the day when House Republicans still had shame, they make a historical first: they censure and stiffly fine a sitting Speaker, the person third in line to the Presidency.
The vote was 395-28. that's not what I call a "bi-partisan" majority, I think that's a majority that says: "this corruption is so disgusting, the folks back home will fire me next election if I don't vote yes."
"Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). "If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment."
Newt, as a historian, should have a unique perspective on on just how shameful this was.
Will people who were born after 1985 find out (and will those who should remember) anything about this and recognize its significance before Super Tuesday?
I sure hope not. This is fun.
