This isn't much of a post, but I saw this bit of good news and thought I'd share it.
Retiring Congressman Barney Frank will marry his longtime partner Jim Ready, according to a New England Cable News report.
Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) intends to marry his longtime partner, Jim Ready in Massachusetts, New England Cable News reports.
A date has not been set.
Frank announced last November that he was retiring at the end of his term. Frank initially said that he was running for re-election, but said he changed his mind after the state's redistricting process would have forced him to run in a new district with many constituents he had never represented before.
The two met at a Maine fundraiser in 2005. They've been in a relationship since 2007, when Ready's partner died.
And this couldn't have happened at a more appropriate time. From The Hill:
Frank's vows come at a crucial time for the gay-rights movement. In Maryland, New Jersey and Washington, bills that would legalize same-sex marriage are poised to pass this legislative session.
In Maine, voters will be able to vote to allow same-sex marriages in November, while North Carolina and Minnesota voters will consider constitutional amendments that would ban gay marriage.
During a 2004 debate in Congress over a federal constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage, Frank railed against the proposal.
"When I go home from today's work and I choose, because of my nature, to associate with another man, how is that a problem for you?" Frank said.
Congratulations to the happy couple are in order!
UPDATE: Send your best wishes to the couple by signing the card!
