When I decided to take on this project I was thinking I'd be able to just pick some songs I already had that were about beer or mentioned beer in the lyrics and I'd be good to go. But as I started putting them together I realized I had a lot of country songs. Thing is, I don't even like country all that much so I decided I needed to have some samples from others genres. One would think that there really aren't that many songs out there where beer is mentioned in the song, wrong, there are hundreds if not thousands of songs that in someway incorporate beer into the theme of the song.

After spending some time Goggling and searching through iTunes I narrowed it down to two or three for each category. As I note below Todd Snider's Beer Run is an old favorite of mine, I've seen him preform it live a few times. But the new find for me that I really enjoyed was the Australian comedy duo Elbowskin. The Beer Song is damn funny. There are a lot of different versions of them singing this song out there, I chose this one because it's probably the clearest.

Below, in most cases, you will find two options for listening to each song. The top link is to Groove Shark and will give you the best quality sound but can sometimes have problems loading in certain browsers. I've also included, when I could find one, a link to the same song on YouTube as a back up option. (Reminder: the YouTube versions may start with ads).

So sit back and listen to some fun songs while sipping on your beer. As always, please share with us what you are drinking tonight.

Todd Snider's "Beer Run" (My all time favorite beer song)
Some of you may have heard Garth Brooks sing this song. Garth has preformed a couple of Todd's songs, in fact Todd tells a funny story about going to Garth's house to work on a song (not Beer Run) with him. Garth loved it but the record company vetoed it because the song had a line about smoking pot in it. Todd wouldn't change the lyrics so Garth never recorded it.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
