You have to see this to believe it. Wait through the 6 second commercial and then listen as Rience Priebus demonstrates he has absolutely no human decency starting at 30 seconds.
That's right - the RNC Chair just compared the President of the United States to a man who abandoned his duty and left people to drown. The same Republican Party that gave us this president, and picked the guy standing next to him to be next up for the job.
Bob Schieffer's face tells it all. First he's shocked, then you can see him swallowing whatever outrage he has and joining Priebus in laughing, albeit with a sick grin on his face. Nothing like having to abandon all pretense of integrity on national TV while your guest pwns you and your network and you just have to swallow it.
This is as big an indictment of the media for allowing the Republicans to get away with crap like this as it is of a corrupt political party and their obvious contempt for America.
You know that any Democrat that made a statement as heinous as this on national TV would be hounded from political life; Priebus is just channeling the GOP thugs now battling in Florida and it's OK if you are a Republican.
It probably won't do any good, but you might want to contact CBS, Schieffer, and Priebus to let them know how much you appreciate the way they've elevated the tone of political discourse in this country. It's too much to hope for an apology from anyone on this - but if no one tries to draw a line, they'll just keep pushing to see how far they can go.
BTW, it's worth noting that StuHunter had a diary up about possible trouble for Priebus down the road. It really shows how corrupt the GOP is these days - and how deep the rot goes. Is it possible to tell the difference between the Republican Party and organized crime these days?
Mon Jan 30, 2012 at 4:03 AM PT: Update: One more thing. Priebus should apologize to all those who lost loved ones in the cruise ship disaster. Turning a tragedy into a cheap political shot and laughing about it says volumes about the kind of people who rise to leadership positions in the Republican Party these days.
