To the Susan G. Komen Foundation:
I am a breast cancer survivor. In fact, I just celebrated my 5th year anniversary. I have contributed to the foundation often and walked For the Cure a number of times. This will not happen again.
I refuse to support in any way a foundation that just increased the number of women who will die from breast cancer. Yes, you have effectively sentenced many women to needless death, especially young women and women of color and poor women.
You will no longer find me walking in Race for the Cure. You will no longer find any donations from me. By no longer supporting Planned Parenthood, you have sentenced many women to death.
I will not support murderers, no matter how well they are dressed.
You don't seem to realize that Planned Parenthood provides thousands of women with mammograms and follow-up care for breast cancer for women who could not otherwise afford a simple mammogram, let alone afford treatment for malignancies. Planned Parenthood also provides screening for cervical cancer as well as provide other critical health services for women.
Abortions are a very small part of Planned Parenthood and it receives no federal funds for the abortion service they do offer. A long-term law prohibits federal funds being given to any providers of abortion services. Any "investigations" going on that speak to that won't find any federal funds being paid for those services.
You have made a political decision, not a medical decision, when you refused to contribute to the non-abortion services offered by Planned Parenthood. With this decision you chose to prohibit services for cervical cancer screenings and breast cancer screenings.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a breast cancer survivor and was proud to Walk for the Cure and to wear the pink T-shirts from those events. Those T-shirts will now go into a drawer, not to be worn again until you reverse your decision.
Respectfully,
From a breast cancer survivor,
My name
