Oh, how we have come to loathe those words. They are flung like backhanded slaps to the face in our semi-regular pie fights over the issues of the day.
And those who are further left than me and more critical of the President know how it feels when posts imply those words.
Only this time it's not us that's doing the flinging.
The seeming inevitability of Mitt Romney has got the wingnuttosphere angry and hurt.
First, let's look at the results of the last two contests:
Results for Florida Republican Primary (U.S. Presidential Primary)
Jan 31, 2012 (100% of precincts reporting)
Mitt Romney 775,014 46.4%
Newt Gingrich 533,117 31.9%
Rick Santorum 222,799 13.3%
Ron Paul 117,104 7%
Other 21,613 1.3%
Results for Nevada Republican Caucus (U.S. Presidential Primary)
Feb 04, 2012 (71% of precincts reporting)
Mitt Romney 11,822 47.6%
Newt Gingrich 5,623 22.7%
Ron Paul 4,619 18.6%
Rick Santorum 2,749 11.1%
Other 0 0%
What we have is a candidate that has yet to break 50% in the results. That means that the rest combined beat him. Now, Ron Paul is never dropping out. But looking at the combined Newt, Frothy, and "Other", we come very close to evening Romney's total.
But what's even worse, is that turnout is much lower this year than in 2008. One would think with the prospect of beating Obama that enthusiasm would be high. But as others state with many more graphs and pretty links, people just don't like these candidates. In fact, the ONLY state where turnout was up was in South Carolina.
Well, most people. The FReepers loves them some Newt
Now, we have had the all out media blitz by the Republican Establishment in favor of Romney. And let me tell you, that's not sitting well. Let's don our hip waders and HazMat gear and go to FReeper-land and see how THEY like being told to STFU:

Why is it that Mittens “Gaffe-amatic” Romney keeps shooting himself in both feet with his big mouth an the Stupid Party still thinks he's ready for prime time?

Now watch them go after Ann Coulter:

Just heard Coulter on Fox News saying "Romney was the most Conservative" in the GOP Race..........WHAT????
Coulter was just on Fox News saying Romney was the "most Conservative" in the GOP Group. In my opinion, she lost ALL credibility with ANYTHING she says from this point forward. What a complete sellOUT! And, I like Michael Reagan......he was speaking in favor of Newt, but he sounded like milquetoast in the wake of Coulter's comments. I am sickened by what I just heard.
Comments?

And if her first pick, Pillsbury Dough Boy Christie was in the running, she would be saying this RINO was the most
conservative. Ann Coulter should join the democratic party because whatever brain she had has turned into mush.

I’m so glad I had a chance to vote for who I wanted to be the GOP nominee. Oh, wait, we have not had a primary yet.
This is not representative government, at least not when it comes to picking a president.
I am definately NOT voting in this election, at least not for the GOP candidate. I will either write in someone or go with a third party candidate if one shows up that I like.

Bingo, right there!
Folks, this is not worth getting upset about. Just follow the money. Ann Coulter makes a lot of money writing books and being a pundit, and it’s her self-interest that comes first, not conservative ideology.
Get that straight.
She (and all the rest of them) are vying to be in the position of being able to say, one year from now, that “they saw it all coming down” and how Newt never had a chance, he would have lost it all, etc. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy they’re creating, and they will personally benefit from it just like the Republican party operative will benefit from maintaining the status quo.
You have to deal with the FACT that most of these pundits are NOT there because they care about conservatism (Rush, Sean, and other you can name being the exceptions). They say what is in their personal and financial best interest.
Why pay them any attention or allow them to upset your life?

I sat right in front of Ann Coulter last year at CPAC when she said Chris Christie must run for President because if Mitt Romney is our nominee, Obama will have 4 more years!
Then right after Newt's win in SC, she was going nuts about Newt's win and saying Mitt Romney is the best candidate! And notice she also mentioned Fanny Mae/Fanny Mac as an issue for Newt again tonight. She KNOWS all the stuff Romney has been saying is not true. She KNOWS the WHOLE cause of the Fanny Mae/Fanny Mac housing crisis was due to Chris/Dodd.
Ann has lost all my respect because she is now a flip flopper for sure....and one who is not honest about her flip flopping!

I was sickened too when I saw her. It’s not hormones. Personally, I think she has always been sweet on the conservatives to gain their trust while selling out to her liberal friends and we are just beginning to see it for the first time. Talk about true colors. It’s upsetting because she has made a fortune from conservatism (by the trust we have given her) and now to see her defending Romneycare. She and her elitists friends have managed to portray Romney as the nominee for months then here comes along the feisty Newt who is tired of seeing no one standing up for the traditional American values. People are behind him and they are terribly upset because we will not come along with them. Newt called Mitt out tonight as being dishonest. She and her friends can’t handle his boldness. The ruling class cannot understand that we are mature enough to see Newt has flaws though we trust him enough to go to Washington and reform the place. We want reforms, not another McCain. They certainly have insulted a lot of their base.

This Skocpol theory is pure nonsense! There is nothing in Romney's record which indicates that his is a "conservative mind," or that he would be loyal to the TEA movement's agenda.
The liberties of millions yet unborn are at stake, and the GOP elite (the Party of Jefferson) is attempting to force through a nominee unable to talk of anything but himself, his "success" in the "private sector," and his one fairly ordinary term as a governor!!
Most citizens agree that this November is a crucial point in the history of the Republic and may determine whether America's future lies down the dark road of tyranny by government, a road which many nations have traveled across the centuries - OR, is it possible that enough enlightened citizens use the force of their Constitutional prerogative as its "KEEPERS" (Justice Joseph Story) and bring about a return to its limits on and protections FROM their elected officials, as both Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln advised us to do. Do Republicans seriously want to conserve (preserve) America's constitutional principles? Or, are they just objecting to Democrats? Do they have a passion for liberty? Is this just about changing the Party in power, or is it about preserving freedom?
If their concern is for convincing enough voters to reject the idea of "a government big enough to give you everyting you want" and turn to advocacy for "a government small enough to allow you freedom to keep most of what you earn," then they'd better get busy seeing that someone is nominated who has been "marinated" (to use a word coined by Ingraham last night on "The Factor") in the Founders' ideas (isn't that what conservatives purport to "conserve"?).
So far, Mitt Romney demonstrates no such immersion. He has been "successful" in benefiting from the founding ideas, and he recites familiar words and phrases from patriotic speeches and songs, but that is different from understanding and being able to call up and articulate the philosophy which made such success possible.
Ronald Reagan's life and letters reveal that he had "immersed" himself in the ideas of liberty for years before he agreed to run for President, and that is why he could set "issues" in light of constitutional "principle," and explain his advocacy or rejection of solutions in by that light.
The other three candidates--Paul, Santorum, Gingrigh--couch their answers to questions in a manner which indicate personal study and understanding of the Constitution's protections, each in his own way.
Of the two so-called "frontrunners," however, the lifetime history scholar, teacher, legislator, and participant in what was called "the Reagan revolution," appears to be the one most likely to be able to successfully articulate and distinguish those ideas to voters, if given the chance to compete with the "counterfeit ideas" of tyranny cloaked in righteous benevolence by Obama.
Is "politics as usual" to win the day, or might we not bring Gingrich, Santorum, Paul, and others who embrace founding principles together to help to create a "passion" for liberty among citizens sufficient to defeat the counterfeit ideas which are leading the Republic to ruin?
To: STARWISE
The lemmings are marching onto Obama lite after weeks and weeks of the dishonest media saying to them that Romney is the best candidate to beat Obama. May as well be prepared, Romney will lose to Obama. It is a shame we cannot stop Romney. With Paul and Rick splitting votes, the conservatives are getting the short end.

And finally, the Newt love:
Newt Gingrich was in Top Form during a post Las Vegas News Conference-FoxNews with blindspots
February 4, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell
Posted on Saturday, February 04, 2012 11:07:37 PM by mitchell001
Newt Gingrich is a brilliant speaker and a brilliant political leader. He demonstrated an opennes and a command of conservatism during his post LasVegas Caucus news conference. Fox News analysts were openly unfair in their analysis of Gingrich's news conference. They were openly jealous that Newt is head and shoulders above Romney, Santorum and Paul. Fox News has blindspots, since only Charles Krauthammer acknowledged Gingrich's superiority over Romney in expressing detailed policy positions such as Obama's denying American Catholics Freedom of Religion by forcing them to violate their beliefs by requiring them to pay for artificial contraception with Obamacare requirements.
To: mitchell001
Yes. He was real good. He makes it clear that Ronald McRomney can not beat Obama.

I don’t know wheter to get angry or cry. It is disgusting the way Faux News and the gop establishment have treated the ONLY true conservative we have running in this election. Romney openly admitted he is a moderate and he also is proud of his socialized medicine in Mass. What is wrong with people? what happened to the conservatives in the GOP? I am no longer a republican...after all these years of working, donating and fighting for the party..what do we have? one rino after another being supported by them...it is maddening

Katie, I watched both Fox and CNN and was utterly disgusted with the analysis. Unrelenting tearing Newt apart and not one word (that I heard) about the $17 million + spent by Romney on 90 % carpet bombing ads against Newt in Florida.
These parroting pundits are living in a parellel universe. Newt’s press conference was great and he said exactly what he should have said.
Romney threw down the gauntlet and Newt picked it up and ran with it brilliantly as only he can do.

Faux News is so inept. They start out by predicting what Newt would say, he talked about something different (brilliantly), then in their analysis they proved his point that the Republican establishment is almost entirely against him.
This is going to be the American Revolution all over again.

The media wants Romney for one reason and one reason only, because they know that Obama will clobber him. Even Donna Brazile said so weeks ago, came out and said it. Unfortunately the Republican party lost its way a long time ago and has not learned their lesson from 2008. They are instead going to nominate a guy that makes John McCain look decent.

Yep, you guessed it!
I could go on and on. This thread is too funny to read. The despair, the anger, the bewilderment, it's just so delicious.
Which brings me to what WE can do to ensure we continue to enjoy Orville Redenbacher's products.
We all know some serious Tea People. You know the kind. And as we all know, they HATE Romney. We need to use gentle words of concern at how the media is all in the tank for Romney, and even prominent conservative pundits are for him. Things like:
"Did you hear Ann Coulter's endorsing Romney? I thought Ann Coulter was more conservative than that".
Heck, we can even offer suggestions on how to keep the primary going. Mention donating to those candidates. "If you don't participate, they'll choose the candidate for you". We can even point out how the media kept fueling the Obama vs Clinton primary battle as some sort of war.
The point is, for us to make them so mad about being told to "Sit down and STFU" that we drag the primaries all the way to Tampa.
