As reported by Reuters:
The Simpsons are corroding the morals of Iranian youth, an official said on Monday, as dolls based on Bart, Homer and the rest of the American cartoon family joined the shapely Barbie among Western toys targeted by a new crackdown in Tehran.
"The Simpsons dolls are merchandise from an animated series, of which some episodes are even banned in Europe and America," Mohammad Hossein Farjoo, whose agency oversees what Iranian children can play with, told the Sharq newspaper. He did not elaborate on what episodes might have been censored elsewhere.
Mr. Farjoo, who sports the exalted title of "Secretary for Policy-making at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults," cited the American television show as an example of the sort of "Western intoxication" that, along with the vivacious Barbie, poses a danger to morals in the Islamic Republic.
I don't know much about running countries, let alone theocracies, but if I were in charge in Tehran, I'd probably be more concerned with Netanyahu practicing his Dirty Harry "make my day" impression in the mirror, sanctions crippling the economy or rampant heroin addiction than the effects of Springfield's most famous family.
But, hey, what do I know about governance? Not squat.
But I do know a little about politics and I can offer Mr. Ahmanidijad and company one bit of friendly advice:
Don't mess with Bart. He's got better writers than you.
