For those of us wondering how the heck we could miss Karen Handel if she wouldn't go away...
I'm sure she has a lovely future ahead of her at FAUX News or as a staff person for that Congress critter dude who began all this Planned Parenthood $hit in the first place.
It's time for "this day in history." On this date in 1992, European Community members signed the Maastricht Treaty, which led to creation of the euro. Shall we ask Greece how well that worked out for them?! Charles Dickens was born 200 years ago today; the GOBP has been reading way too much of his stuff lately. I guess they've never gotten to the end of A Christmas Carol! Finally, wish a happy 50th birthday to my oldest sister!! :D
On with The Rachel Maddow Show...
And, Rachel's back - not that I didn't appreciate Lamb Chop last night. :D
"MO Primary, Mo' Problems" - So, am I to understand that election activities in MO, CO, & MN don't actually earn delegates? If so, why the spark bother?! Rachel called the GOBP "...a freakin' mess this year." Yea, that's putting it mildly! Remember them IA caucuses that couldn't decide who won? The MENSA member who was in charge resigned - probably before he could be sacked. Now, folk can't decide if FL is really a winner - take - all state; Newt would like for it not to be! GOBP in NV had a difficult time counting ballots, too. There were more ballots than voters? HA! That's downright Chicago style! :D Newtie didn't even get on the ballot in MO, but lots of other folk who aren't even running are. MO had to make their primary non - binding in order to not lose half their delegates. Wow, this $hit IS pretty damn funny! Newt isn't in any of the phony voting states tonight; he's in OH.
"Untying the Knot" - Yep, I absolutely remember the combination of being elated at a President Obama victory & thinking "What the SPARK?!" about what happened with Prop 8 in CA. David Boise & Ted Olson TEAMED UP to declare Prop 8 unconstitutional. They were the Bush VS. Gore lawyers. Today's ruling only applies to the situation in CA, but Mr. Olson thinks the decision might be a bit more far - reaching. Oh, I sort of hope not; as long as the decision remains "narrow" & applicable to CA, it stands a chance. He thinks today's decision could eventually affect states where homosexual couples can't get married. Mr. Olson mentioned Loving VS. VA as precedent to actions today; I hope so! I'm of multiple minds about this issue reaching SCOTUS. If this does reach SCOTUS, there is a remote chance they might not even agree to hear it based on the consistent rulings in lower courts; however, if memory serves, only 3 or 4 justices have to want to hear a case for it to appear on their docket. If we didn't have SCOTUS justices seeking to change politics & policy, I'd be inclined to think the former would happen. All MENSA members except Ron Paul roundly dissed today's decision. Dahlia Lithwick gets to follow up Ted Olson. She mentioned the Judge Walker decision & how complete it was. I read that mother, and it sure was! He absolutely DISMANTLED the "pro Prop 8" folks' case. Today's decision could be interpreted as a letter to Justice Kennedy - who is usually "the 5" in most 5 - 4 decisions. Prop 8 folks can either demand the full 9th Circuit hear or appeal directly to SCOTUS; Ms. Lithwick thinks it will go straight to SCOTUS. DOMA cases are chugging right along, too, and 1 might be "better" as far as appealing to Justice Kennedy.
"Heroes Welcome" AKA "The Blue, the Proud" AKA "Yes, We Canyon" - Poor Rachel must've lost a bet & had to wear an Eli Manning jersey as "punishment." :) OK, so if Mayor Putz is saying the Pentagon won't allow a parade in NYC, how did St. Louis get one? The Giants got their parade today. The original Gulf War vets got a parade. The "official" NYC response is "too soon." NYC City Council Speaker Christine Quinn wants that Iraq vet parade. She's also open to "non parade" alternatives from vet groups. She also wants a national day of action to make sure vets get any help they need back in civilian life. So, will the mayor of St. Louis get in trouble from the DoD for having a parade? That line of thinking just doesn't make sense.
"An Exercise in Fertility" - Man on Dog is in St. Charles, MO because he thought he could win tonight even though the result means exactly "jack" & "$hit." Mittens is in CO. CO had a personhood amendment, too, in 2008, and it went down in flames when they elected Barack Obama. That same amendment got on the ballot there in 2010, and it still lost badly in a good year for the GOBP! When the personhood folk failed again in CO, they tried MS, and they proverbially shot it down, too. Every MENSA candidate is pro - personhood & anti - abortion. 28 states require contraception coverage in their health insurance coverage. Did y'all notice my fair state wasn't high - lited?! *&^%$#@! Mittens didn't exempt Catholic hospitals from pregnancy prevention while he was Governator. 98% of Catholic women are dissing Church policy by using birth control.
