Take a deep breath, let it sink in - then take it to the bank.
Barack Obama will win re-election to begin his second term in Office.
There's practically no real way that he can lose against the Ridiculous Clown Car of Liars, Hypocrites and Sociapaths that makes up the GOP field.
I mean, Really - seriously.
Willard Mittance (I was for National ObomneyCare before I was against it) Romney. The Champion of the 1%, job slaying - "I like to fire people" - "corporations are people, my friend" - "wanna bet $10,000?" - clueless, entitled, dismissive 21st Century fatcat robber baron scumbag?
Rick Frothy Spreading Sanitorum? The guy who let his wife have a late term procedure that saved her life, but lost her baby - but isn't going to let you or your wife have the same procedure. Oh NO! That would be immoral. Just like letting Church owned businesses knowingly discriminate against their female employees by restricting their access to life protecting medicines.
Newt Gingrich the Serial Marriage King? The guy who was getting blow-jobs in his car, while trying to get Bill Clinton impeached for getting a blowjob in his office? The guy who was kicked out of Congress for ethics?
And then whose left? Ron Paul, the not even half-way in the bigot-adjacent closet Ayn Rand cultist who wants to protect "Civil Liberties" by giving all rights to businesses owners, and then essentially repeal and/or de-enforce the Civil Rights Act which would actually destroy Civil Public Rights for People, but not Institutions.
All of these guys, in one way or another, have effectively signed on to repealing Health Care Reform and implementing the Ryan Plan to dismantle Medicare, roll back the Social Security Retirement Age while cutting it's benefits. All of them are for maintaining the Bush Tax Cuts which would drown us in red ink forever. Dive into more and more racial and religious paranoia, fear-mongering, gingoistic, gun-worshipping bullcrap.
Anyone still remember what things were like with W as President? These punks are worse, all of them. Much worse.
Obama can't lose to this pack of pandering corporate shills and crazed fundamental hosebags. That Can't Happen. We can't let it happen.
And no I'm not making the argument the Obama is merely "not as bad" a choice compared to the GOP Field.
I am not saying he's what we have to "Settle" for. Not hardly.
Barack Hussein Obama has been the Most Progressive and Effective President of the last two generations. You'd have to go back to LBJ or even FDR to match what he's done in his first term, and he did it without the massive Democratic Majorities in the House and Senate that both LBJ and FDR had at the time.
Sure there are things to grumble about and be disappointed in from a Progressive position. Bradley Manning. Gitmo. FISA. Whistle-Blower Prosecutions. The Patriot Act. The Public Option Replacement. The COLA.
But just take a second to look at the other side of the ledger.
DADT is Dead.
DOMA is dying on the vine.
TARP worked, has been mostly paid back and kept us from falling into a Second Great Depression.
The American Car Industry is Roaring Back so strong that when Clint Eastwood makes a Pro-Detroit Commercial, the Right-Wing accuse him of making a Pro-Obama Commercial. He owns the issue of a thriving U.S. Car Industry now, and he will for decades. Detroit belongs to Obama.
Bin Laden is Dead.
The entire command structure of Al Qaeda is dead.
Khaddafi is Dead & Libya is Liberated with the help of NATO.
The Underwear Bomber was caught. The Times Square Bomber was caught.
Keystone XL is comatose for the duration.
The Dream Act has essentially been implemented as a matter of policy, if not law.
Health Reform is being implemented and the World Hasn't Blown Up, coverage is increasing while some premiums are already coming down dramatically before the law has even fully kicked in.
Torture cases by CIA Contractors ARE being investigated & brought before and Grand Jury which just may indict.
The Stimulus actually did work. Slowly, but it worked.
The Deficit has actually been coming down over the last couple years.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is finally fired up, and the banks are running scared.
Hundreds of Wall Street raudsters have been arrested, and new Financial Crimes Task Force led by Eric Schneiderman is poised to begin taking many more of them down.
The (Weak) Tea Party is becoming a faded echo and distant memory, while the Occupy Movement continue to fight on despite violent evictions, and continues to shift our focus and public policy away from "Cutting" to Investing. From punishing the 99% for daring to believe in the American Dream to finally making the 1% start to Pay it Forward to protect that dream as we can see in Obama's latest budget which let's the Bush Tax Cuts expire while implementing the Buffet Rule.
Here are the Top Ten Highlights the 2013 Obama Budget according to Thinkprogress.
1. The budget includes $350 billion in short-term measures to encourage job growth, including $50 billion in immediate infrastructure investment, $30 billion to rebuild schools, and year-long extensions of the payroll tax holiday and unemployment insurance.
2. The implementation of the Buffett Rule and the repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy helps reduce the deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years.
3. For every $1 in new revenue from those making more than $250,000 per year and from closing corporate loopholes, the budget has $2.50 in spending cuts including the deficit reduction enacted over the last year.
4. The total budget reduces the deficit by $4 trillion over the next decade.
5. Obama preserves the maximum Pell Grant award, a key difference from the GOP budget, and makes permanent then Americans Opportunity Tax Credit, which helps 9 million families afford the costs of college.
6. Unlike the last two GOP budgets, Obama’s budget protects Medicare and Medicaid from structural changes, and through small tweaks, saves $360 billion from those programs.
7. States will receive $30 billion in aid to prevent further layoffs of firefighters, teachers, and police officers, some of the hardest-hit workforces in the nation.
8. The budget eliminates 12 tax breaks to oil, gas, and coal companies, saving $41 billion over 10 years.
9. Obama preserves planned cuts to the Defense Department negotiated in the debt limit deal last August.
10. The budget maintains goals of putting one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015; doubling share of electricity from clean energy sources by 2035; and reducing buildings’ energy use by 20 percent by 2020.
There are now at least 4 different Constitutional Amendment proposals to
overturn Citizen's United.
All the other side has to counter these facts - Are LIES.
Lies that "Obama's policies lost 2 Million Jobs", when they didn't.
Lies that he's a Secret Muslim.
Lies that he's anti-Christian and/or anti-Faith.
Lies that he's not even an American.
Lies that he's a white hating, gun hating bigot.
Lies that he didn't deserve to get into College. Or become Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Lies that he's never actually had a job or cashed a non-government paycheck.
Lies about Death Panels.
Lies that's he's stopped all off shore drilling and Oil production, when in fact it's at an all time high.
Lies about Saul Alinsky.
Lies that he's gone around the world "Apologizing for America", when in reality what he didn't was mostly Criticize Bush's Bad Policies and make a point that he's - thankfully - going a different direction.
Lies about "Exploding Spending", which what really happened was that Obama finally put the cost of Bush's Wars into the Budget.
They can't win. They haven't got a chance.
There's no question in my mind that Obama will be President until 2016. The real question is : What Kind of Congress will he have to work with?
An effective (mostly) Democratic one like we had from 2006-2010 with Nancy Pelosi as speaker again? Or will we have more of the Psychopathic Beohner Congress with Mitch-the-Turtle Troll blocking the bridge to progress in the Senate?
That's the question. And were gonna have to come up with a good answer.
In the end this isn't about Obama. His Presidency and second term is a means to an end. It's about America's Future. Which way are we going to go - Forward and Backward?
