WASHINGTON -- Lisa Chan, the actress who appeared in a political ad that was widely criticized for furthering negative stereotypes of Asian-Americans, has apologized, calling her participation "a mistake"
...
"I am deeply sorry for any pain that the character I portrayed brought to my communities," Chan wrote on her Facebook page, as first reported by the Angry Asian Man blog. "As a recent college grad who has spent time working to improve communities and empower those without a voice, this role is not in any way representative of who I am. It was absolutely a mistake on my part and one that, over time, I hope can be forgiven. I feel horrible about my participation and I am determined to resolve my actions."
Ms. Chan founded a non-profit organization and competed in the Miss California beauty pageant.
Something tells me that in spite of her unfortunate choice in acting gigs, she's pretty much just assured herself of a decent career going forward.

I dunno. On the one hand, actors, like everyone else, occasionally takes jobs that they aren't proud of; somethings' gotta pay the bills. Lord knows I've developed a couple of websites that I don't feature in my client portfolio (nothing embarrassing about the client, just their unfortunate choice in colors/design for the site...I can tell a client not to mix paisley and purple polka dots all I want, but if they insist on it...it's their money...)
On the other hand, the moment she read the script she had to know it was essentially the same as a black actor being made to speak in eubonics. Considering that it was an ad for a Republican politician, it's hard to believe she didn't realize what the final cut was gonna look like. The cynic in me wonders if she knew damned well how controversial it was gonna be, resulting in huge exposure for her as a model/actress..
