It's a fact! Did you know that electric cars pollute as much as a diesel bus? Neither did until I read Adam Jablonski's article in the Daily Caller.
Yes, selective reporting at its finest. The title of the article reads, "Air Quality Study: Electric Cars Out-Pollute Gas Engines." Better think twice before you buy that Nissan Leaf hippy! According to the article, these electric cars pollute as much as a diesel bus.
All of this is true, unless you actually do a little research.
It is true that the study's author, Christopher Cherry of the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, found that all-electric vehicles produced more pollution than gasoline powered cars. See abstract here. But, if you take the 30 seconds to read the abstract instead of getting your news straight from Rushbo's ass/mouth, you discover that this applies to Chinese electric vehicles due to an unregulated power industry that relies heavily on coal.
From an interviewProfessor Cherry gave to EV World:
And in the case of China's electric power grid, which uses fossil fuels to fire 85 percent of its thermoelectric plants, and 90+% of that is coal-fired, it is considerably dirtier than, say the U.S. thermoelectric power fleet, which has far stricter environmental regulations.
In the U.S., that number is about
45% and we have those things, what are they called....REGULATIONS! That's right. For the time being the EPA still exists and they regulate the pollution caused by coal plants in the U.S.
Finally, that claim about polluting as much as a diesel bus, it is true in one respect. Per passenger kilometer, the electric cars in China pollute as much as a diesel bus. The DC article fails to mention that little bit of information. Then again, it's the DC, why would they want to research an article. That takes time and effort.
