Gross misuse of "First they came..." is nothing new. But, this Facebook post,on a page where I do not have posting privileges, seems like it must be farce. Sadly it is not.
This is the post verbatim:
Please read this.
When I was a little boy , my Father worked with a man. This man and his wife had me in their home one day and the man's wife told me stories of what it was like being a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany.
As she spoke , she showed me the number on her forearm. Telling me stories that I do not care to repeat out of respect for h...er memory , she began to cry. However , her voice remained strong and consistant.
I remember her stories and I remember her tears. I also remember her warning ; " When they came for my neighbor , I did not speak up. When they came for my friends , I did not speak up. When they came for my family , I did not speak up. When they came for me...there was no one left to speak up. "
I implore all True Americans to stand up and speak up. Speak up now. Speak up today and tomorrow and every day thereafter. Never be afraid. Never be intimidated. Never let anyone tell you what you can and cannot say. Never be a slave. You are not alone. This is America. This is Our Country.
The only way for Israel to fall is if America falls first. The only way for America to fall is from within.
Our Country cannot be allowed to fall to Islam , disguised as Political Correctness and a Move Forward attitude. Our Country cannot be allowed to be controlled by a Muslim masquerading as a Christian. Our Country cannot be allowed to be controlled by his elite political puppets who are ignorant of American Values.
Our Country cannot be allowed to be controlled by a generation of people with a ghetto intellect and demeanor , who have no sense of appreciation , or love and pride for their culture and American Heritage.
If we True Americans do not stand together and have the courage and conviction to speak up as One Nation Under God , than we cease to exist as a people.
One day soon in the near future , we may all have tears in our eyes. This is Our Country and we must be True Americans.
UPDATE: I mistakenly thought it would be clear that I think the post is horrific, and that the irony is that they are using a beautiful quote about standing up against hate to propagate hate. This is just a copy of a Facebook post that I thought could stand on its own as an example of irony in its worst sense. The fact that they actually empathized with a living Holocaust victim makes it that much more chilling.
The term "ghetto" really made me suspect farce at first, since so many European Jews were forced to live in ghettos. Also, you can easily substitute "Aryan" for "American Heritage."
To me the writer sounds like a citizen of 1930's Germany talking about the "Jewish threat."
