Hey, ladies! If you, like me, are just a wee bit upset over the recent kerfuffle over contraception and your man just doesn't get it, perhaps we should look to an oldie but a goodie, Lysistrata!!
From Wikipedia, Lysistrata was
originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of one woman's extraordinary mission to end The Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata persuades the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace.
Since the GOP has decided to declare war on reproductive rights and contraception, perhaps we should all take the advice of Rick Santorum's sugar daddy, Foster Friess, and go buy ourselves a bottle of aspirin and clamp one firmly between our knees until these fools shake the rocks out of their skulls!
For there is surely a war going on out there over women's health issues. The recent maneuvering by Susan G. Komen for the Cure is just one example. Indiana, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, Wisconsin, and North Carolina, as well as the US Congress, have all been pushing efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, one of the few providers of contraception to many low-income women. Now with all the pearl-clutching over requirements that health insurance should, Dog forbid, actually cover contraception, they have upped the ante even more!
I say let's call their bluff! I would be willing to bet that a lot of guys who think they are in favor of the GOP position that contraceptives shouldn't be required to be covered by health insurance would have a very quick change of heart if we showed solidarity with those who are affected by the defunding of Planned Parenthood and the overreach of the all male hierarchy of the Catholic Church.
If you are fortunate enough to have a mate that understands that you should be in charge of your own reproductive health, more power to you! It will tick off the GOP even more if the only men getting any action in the US are damned libruls, LOL!!
Sorry for the brevity of this diary, but I have been stewing over this for a while and finally decided to do a quick diary on the topic. It's kind of funny - I am in my mid 40's and my DH has had a vasectomy, so I don't even have a dog in this fight anymore, but I couldn't be any angrier over this debacle if I did! Give me some feedback!
