I'm not normally much of a pollwatcher myself, but today I picked up the Sunday Des Moines Register and the headline reads "Obama trails trio from GOP". More details below the orange curlyqueue
The Des Moines Register did head-to-head matchups in Iowa for the four remaining GOP hopefuls against Obama. Surprisingly, 3 out of the 4 are shown as leading Obama:
Obama vs. Paul: 42% to 49%
Obama vs. Santorum: 44% to 48%
Obama vs. Romney: 44% to 46%
Obama vs. Gingrich: 51% to 37%
The poll also notes that President Obama's current approval rate in Iowa is 46%.
I'll leave it to others to discuss, but I for one am a wee bit flabbergasted that RON PAUL, of all people, showed up as the best candidate to beat Obama in the poll.
I'll leave it to others more knowledgeable than I to comment on the poll itself, but I think this shows that as much as we chortle about the weakness of the GOP field, we certainly can't take an Obama win for granted.
