Don't forget this diary & TRMS diary are taking tomorrow night off so Hubby & I can have our "Valentine's Day" date night. :D
Let's get historical for past February 23rds. On this date in 1836, the siege of the Alamo began in San Antonio, TX. I could find no information concerning Governor Secession's heroics there nor if Ozzie Osborn at least waited until the battle was over before he whizzed on it. ;D
On this date in 1870, Mississippi was readmitted to the union. As far as I'm concerned, they're welcome to leave again.
On this date in 1965, Stan Laurel of the comedy team Laurel and Hardy died at age 74. Yes, I'm showing THAT clip again because it makes me smile. :)
Finally, wish a happy 72nd birthday to Peter Fonda!
Let's Countdown...
#5 "Zona Out" AKA "Losers All" AKA "Dueling Tax Plans" - Man on Dog apparently had a rather rough night at the MENSA meeting in the "Show Me Your Papers" state. Yea, I'm crying a river; OK, I lied. ;D The audience booed birth control. Most people approve President Obama's compromise contraception coverage & support Planned Parenthood. Newt accused President Obama of killing babies. Man on Dog voted for Title X & NCLB? Rep. Ron Paul called Man on Dog a "fake." Man on Dog then accused Mittens of being an Occupier. Mittens thinks the "Show Me Your Papers" immigration law is a model for the country. Well, I hope he's not mistaken for a foreigner without his papers! The RNC tried to pin rising gas prices on President Obama. NOW, Man on Dog & Mittens are in a statistical dead heat in MI. David Catanese gets to analyze the MENSA meeting last night. People could be getting turned off by all this social issue talk in an environment of an uncertain economy. Newt desperately tried to prove he's relevant. AND, where were Man on Dog's & Newtie's ashes on their forehead for Ash Wednesday? Are they CINOs?! Man on Dog apologized for a couple of his votes in the Senate & was roundly booed for it. OK, I ain't bringing out the "Dueling Banjos" shtick again tonight! ;D President Obama's tax plan wants to lower most corporate tax rates to 28% & manufacturer's tax rates to 25%. Newtie's plan would add $7 trillion to the debt within 10 years, Man on Dog's would add $4.5 trillion, Mittens' plan would only add a paltry $250 billion, and Rep. Paul's plan would CUT the national debt by $2.2 trillion. $hit! I thought tea baggers were all about no taxes & debt! Why isn't Rep. Paul their guy? Robert Reich is the "tax man" tonight. He can't figure out why President Obama wants to lower the corporate tax rate. Some in the White House might want to take away a potential issue the GOBP might bring up in the run up to the general election. "Occupiers" like the head of JP Morgan Chase & the WSJ called for higher corporate tax rates & breaking up too big to fail banks! Rep. Paul's plan would save money but would also get rid of a slew of government agencies & programs.
#4 "Defeater of the PAC?" AKA "Wake - Up Call" - Senator Russ Feingold has signed on to be one of the co - chairs of President Obama's re - election efforts, so he's in the interesting position of working to re - elect a person who kind of did a switcharoo on the whole SuperPAC issue. Well, as I've said numerous times, to NOT do so would've been bring a spork to a gun fight. While Citizens United is the "law of the land," use it to your advantage; the GOBP sure as $hit has & sure as $hit will continue to do so. AND, barring a SCOTUS shake - up of monumental proportions within the next couple of years or so, Citizens United will be with us for a good long while. Protestors were at SCOTUS today to protest its action against Montana - a state trying to diminish the role of Citizens United. Senator Feingold's in studio. He thinks President Obama made the wrong call on the SuperPAC question but wants to fight for someone who might nominate SCOTUS justices to perhaps overturn Citizens United. Senator Feingold wants messages to mean more than money. Well...*&^%$#@! He has or appears to have a lot of faith in the American people; I hope that faith isn't misplaced. So, since Senator Feingold is the national co - chair for President Obama's re - election, I guess he won't run for Governor of WI. BUMMER!
"Time Marches On!" - Keith has seen Book of Mormon 9 times?! :D Russian presidential candidates are rapping. Wow... AAAAAaaaaaUUUUUUuuuuuGGGGGGggggggHHHHHHhhhhhh!! RODENT!! *&^%$#@!
#3 "Chris Cross" AKA "'Cowardice'"- Governor Take a State Helicopter to His Kid's Game tried to hide President Obama's skirts in justifying his veto over marriage equality in "the Garden State." A federal judge in San Francisco yesterday concurred with the administration's position that DOMA is unconstitutional. Ah... those San Francisco values! :D Wayne Besen isn't one of the Governator's biggest fans. Exactly 1 year ago today, President Obama told the DOJ to not spend time & effort defending DOMA in court. Maryland today became the 8th state to approve marriage equality, so the aforementioned Helicopter Governor is swimming against the tide of history.
WPITW - The Scum Andrew Breitbart will grace MI with his presence this weekend. OK, tonight's mash - up was a nice rebound from last night. :D There's the Girl Scout bashin' IN state rep. He apologized then trashed them again. A WI state rep who's been a big supporter of the new voter ID law decided to vote for a colleague who'd left the room - OOPS! His wife is Governor Scotty's Lt. Governor?! HA!
#1 "Palin Comparison" AKA "Pregame" - HBO made a movie of that book written about the behind - the - scenes action in the 2008 POTUS campaign. $aint $arah from Wasilla & her minions have not seen it yet but are already trashing the portrayal of the aforementioned $aint $arah. Poor Julianne Moore should get pain & suffering compensation for having to dive into the "mind" set of that woman for Game Change! She's feigning disinterest; her minions are &itching for her. JC Coccoli gets $aint $arah from Wasilla duty.
