There isn't a single major religion that doesn't have some doctrine that at face value strikes many as absurd. There isn't a single major religion that doesn't have some history of scandal and bloodshed. Attacking Mitt Romney for his religion is not the way to win an election. It is no more appropriate than it was for President John F. Kennedy's critics to question his Catholicism.
That Mitt Romney is descended from some Mormon elders is not actually unusual. Some of you may remember NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, who led the San Francisco 49ers to one of their Super Bowl titles. Young is a direct descendant of Mormon leader Brigham Young. When asked about it by an interviewer, Young shrugged and pointed out that since his religion originally allowed polygamy, there are a lot of descendants of the original Mormons. As Steve Young put it, if his family held a reunion they could fill a football stadium.
Mitt Romney personifies the 1 percent. His policies will hurt many people while primarily benefitting the 1 percent. He also flip-flops on so many issues that it's impressive he's able to remember his positions on any given issue on any given day. He is a man without principle. His religion is no more relevant than is the religion of any other politician.
This should apply to all politicians, whether devoutly religious or agnostic or atheist:
...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Leave Mitt Romney's religion out of it.
