It's the Delegates, Stupid!
Romney looks to have already won Arizona on the strength of early voting. The polls are so tight in Michigan--and with Michigan's rules excluding candidates that do not get 15% of the vote and having congressional district results as well--it's possible that either Romney or Santorum could end up with more delegates no matter who "wins."
Yet all of the talk has been about what it will "mean" for Romney if he "loses" Michigan. Will the donors dry up?
Assuming Mitt has the personal resources to keep him in this, it becomes what it always was: a race for delegates. Mitt Romney will net at least +29 delegates by the end of tomorrow, yet we're going to pronounce him "in big trouble" if he doesn't "win" Michigan.
In reality, the one who has to strike a knockout blow by Super Tuesday is Santorum, because he is behind in delegates and doesn't have the organization to keep up (or the money, at least yet).
Romney is still in troubleif he wants a majority of delegates from the primaries to avoid any kind of deal and get a first-ballot nomination.
But when will our betters in The Village start realizing that this is a contest for delegates and not for who gets to claim they "won" a state?
8:04 PM PT: Santorum is back in the lead. They just can't avoid buyer's remorse with Mitt. http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/...
