The frozen winds are blowing a sizable winter storm into the Northern Plains. Now would be a great time to remember & make a propane donation if you're able to do so.
Yes, travel conditions may make delivery of propane at this time well nigh impossible - but ensuring that there's propane available for delivery as soon as the roads are open again is something that we can still do.
Whenever I hear about storms like this on the news or through diaries, I'm reminded - haunted? - by the opening words of a diary I'd read once here on Daily Kos by Aji:
Have you ever been truly cold?
I don't mean a little chilly; I don't mean shivering occasionally. I mean the kind of cold that sinks bone-deep, that simultaneously numbs and burns hands and feet, that defeats your ability even to think because all the while there's an ever-growing pounding in your head: 'Cold, cold, cold, cold, COLD."
I have. And it's like hunger; it becomes all-encompassing.
In order to try and fight off the sympathetic chill I'm feeling just recounting that description, I remember to see if there was any recent propane donation diary that I can either give to or at least help publicize. In this case, I'm writing one.
Just a quick one, to get the word out there. And I'll even borrow the basic information regarding where & how to donate - this time, from weck's Valentine's Gift of Heat:
Send a check in any amount to:
St. Francis Energy Company / Valandra's II
P.O. Box 140
St. Francis, South Dakota 57572 (Payable to St. Francis Energy)
Attn. Sherry or Patsy / Small Donor's Pool
When enough is in the fund, a drop of propane can be made to a family on the reservation. Since the minimum drop is $150, the small donor's pool was established for those who want to help, but cannot commit to $150.00. I can't give that much; tonight I wrote a check for $50.00.
St. Francis Energy will also take a donation over the phone using a credit card. You can call from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Daily, MSTime.
Phone number: 1-605-747-2542
Many of us have been fortunate to have had a milder-than-expected winter. Not everyone has been so fortunate - and for some, the worst may be on horizon as you read.
If you're able, please help & spread the word.
Namaste.
