Cross posted from Blue Virginia, where we're also fighting insanity like this and this.
A friend of mine sent me this photo from the Clarendon Metro station this morning. Here's her commentary:
I don't recall ever seeing an actual ad saying "go to hell Bush," even when he was selected, & even when he lied (yellowcake, etc.)... Certainly not on the metro - which is obviously desperate for funds so as not to impose any basic standards. I'm surprised they didn't use the f word...
Btw, someone wrote - in PEN on the "screen" of the light-up board: "That's President Obama, to you!" Wish my camera had enough resolution to get that!
Again, the ad is heinous enough, but
Metro accepted it? I mean, I know they're desperate for money, but WTF?!?!?
UPDATE 2:42 pm ET: Rep. Jim Moran weighs in, "asking for the immediate removal of an offensive advertisement disparaging the recent health law which contains the phrase "Go to h[---] Barack" in reference to the President."
UPDATE 6:00 pm ET: Rep. Moran responds to Metro's lame response (that they "must observe the First Amendment with respect to the acceptance of commercial advertising").
You know, I don't think this specific incident would have set me off as much as it has, but I'm sick and tired of the constant disrespect of President Obama I've seen for 3 years now. For instance, Republicans not even calling him "President," Gov. Brewer sticking her finger in his face, talking about "breaking" him, basically painting him as not a real American or Christian or whatever, "cartoons" depicting him as a zombie with a bullet hole in his head, etc., etc. It's never ending.
P.S. I've left a message with Metro's advertising department letting them know about this and asking for comment. I've also contacted several Virginia members of Congress.
P.P.S. To contact Metro and express your desire to have this ad taken down immediately, here's some relevant information:
