Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is apparently a little desperate to get his caucus talking about anything other than social issues, seeing better opportunities in focusing on the economy and gas prices.
He's told his caucus that he doesn't want any more votes on health care repeal, like today's Blunt amendment vote, until after the November election.
He's getting some pushback on that plan, though, from the usual suspects.
[Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.)], a member of the Senate Tea Party Caucus, said the Blunt measure is “just one aspect of ObamaCare. We need to keep reminding people that this bill is going to continue to intrude on our freedoms.
“We should take every chance to remind people the government is going after the Catholic Church and unless we repeal the whole thing, we’re going to keep getting this dribble of things, one after another,” he said.
He believes it is important for Republicans to repeatedly “connect the dots” between the healthcare reform law and new regulations, such as the recent one mandating coverage of contraception.
Credit should be given to McConnell for being politically smart enough to recognize how damaging the crazy has been to his party. From a Democratic perspective, however, keep up the good fight there, DeMint. You've got
House Republicans on your side. That has all the makings of a real good war within the GOP. That, coupled with pissing off America's women, could make for a very good November for Democrats.
