The new protest movement in Wisconsin was started in February of 2011 when Gov. Scott Walker introduced a bill that stripped public employees of all collective bargaining rights. The introduction of the bill was a shock to Wisconsin unions and their members, although Walker claimed at the time that he had campaigned on a promise to eliminate collective bargaining rights for public employees.
Now, via Jud Lounsbury on the recommended list, new video has surfaced showing that not only did Scott Walker not campaign on eliminating collective bargaining rights for public employees, but one week before the election he actually promised to engage in collective bargaining with public employees.
The video is at the top of this post. Here is a transcript of the relevant section between Walker and the editorial board of a local newspaper:
Editorial Board Member: Before, we were talking about state employees contributing to their plan, paying their share of the pension plan. Collective bargaining come into that
Walker: Yep (nodding yes)
Editorial Board Member: How do you get that negotiated and accepted by the state employee unions?
Walker: You still have to negotiate it. I did that at the county as well.
It is not much of a surprise that Walker has been caught lying yet again. After all, it's not like he thought he was talking to one of the Koch brothers. However, it should be interesting to see what explanation he comes out with when he is presented with this video.
Please, contribute $6 to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to recall Scott Walker.
