Tim Johnson (R-IL) has decided that taking a vow to never raise taxes is “disingenuous and irresponsible”, who knew! He even claimed that he had never signed Grover Norquist's pledge when confronted about it. Of course this was later proved to be a bunch of bullshit when a paper managed to get a copy of the pledge with his signature and than of a witness.
To me this smacks of changing your opinion when your ass is on the line after redistricting but still I'll take it. At it's core the Republican brand has only been about one thing, slashing taxes on rich people followed by slashing social programs to pay for them. Followed by making sure no new social programs ever get created because we'd have to tax rich people to pay for them. This is the most toxic thing going on now. Of course, Democrats keep playing this game in an attempt to appear bipartisan. Or pulling famous stunts like Governor "I'll cut services and taxes, and then cover my ass by letting homosexuals marry" Cuomo (probably our President in 2016) to suck up to rich social liberals and the "can't we all get along and cut social security" centrist crowd, but the bulk of the problem is still the GOP.
But if we are starting to get gems like this
“My understanding was then, as I remember it, and certainly now, is that nobody could possibly ever in a million years, in their wildest imagination, expect you to sign something that was right before a primary election and then you’d be locked in on that position the whole rest of your career. Particularly something like taxes and particularly when the national debt 10 and a half years ago was $6 trillion and now it’s going to be $17 trillion.”
out of the GOP maybe the tide is turning a little bit.
We need to squeeze them hard. Not a dollar in cuts to any domestic services without two dollars in revenue increases. And any Democrat not willing to agree with that should be sent packing.
