Well hello there, kossacks. This is a change of pace for me from what I usually write about, but as I mentioned in my last diary, Democracy for America is still holding a scholarship contest, and I would appreciate your vote. That is, if you like what I write about and the way I do it. I know this is my second diary on the subject so I appreciate you reading past this paragraph if you are not totally annoyed with this subject by now.
I don’t normally write diaries like this, especially twice in a row but this time I said, "Hey, why not?" I won’t be going to Netroots Nation any other way, and I don’t know if I will be in the moment to strive for it again. I was put up to it by a few dear friends. I figure that even if you might not care for me or my writing as much as others, you might at least like the artwork I add to some of my diaries in my diaries?
Regardless, I’ll take any support I can get for anything I can offer; most of what I can offer is a voice of authenticity. It’s up to others to decide whether it is authentically good or bad, but it’s real and it’s here for you to judge, like this preliminary sketch of my latest Occupy Wall Street piece in progress to go along with others in my set.
It’s hard to tell what is going on, but this piece will be focused on the media turning its back against Occupy as it did in the beginning. That is, until NYPD Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna’s mace spraying escapades catapulted OWS into the public eye; a sympathetic eye for the brave women pepper sprayed for exercising their 1st amendment rights which inspired this piece.
My fan favorite and best seller.
It’s going to take a long time, but I’m hoping to have a set of 24 OWS pieces to release as a comic book with a synopsis of each piece eventually. I’m far from the only artist in the movement or even on Daily Kos (and it is not the only thing I cover writing or art-wise) but it’s probably safe to say by now that you know if you are reading a priceman diary or viewing a piece of priceman artwork, like it or hate it. So since I am broke, (why I have to try for this) I can only offer you some authenticity in exchange for your vote whether it is in prose or in a visual medium.
At first, I didn’t think anything of Netroots Nation when I joined in 2007, but as became friends with more and more people here on this blog, I now can’t help but wonder what it would be like to meet some of you great Kossacks in real life. I have to be honest as well and admit I’m curious to see if some of the tension is the same or more calm when Kossacks who don’t get along with each other meet in person. It seems like everyone is mostly having a good time from most of the diaries and pictures I have seen from Netroots Nation. I know some of the people I see in these pictures must have their differences, but it seems that is all put aside in order to enjoy the event.
That’s great, because despite really harshly disagreeing and sometimes honestly being annoyed with people here at Daily Kos in those disagreements, Daily Kos is where it stops. I don’t wish anyone harm whatsoever in their personal lives. Hell we might even agree on things we don’t know about, like the kossacks who visit my music diaries and enjoy them despite disliking my other diaries. I don’t understand anyone who takes things too far. To ever want to cause anyone harm in their personal life because they disagree with them politically, is immoral. There’s never a reason for that, and that is never acceptable behavior.
I can’t say there are not some people who take political disagreements on a blog way too far, but it seems like this is mostly put out to pasture at Netroots Nation. I think that is great. It’s one of the reasons I always wanted to go. I can only wonder if I’ll ever know, because I have never been and the prospects of going are unlikely.
It’s not looking very promising as far as being one of the 3 winners, but there is still a faint chance. This is just the first round; a panel will pick the remaining 40 scholarship winners besides the 3 in the first round.
I am technically still on the front page and it would help to keep me there for considerations, so to those that haven’t voted for me, please consider it and I will be truly grateful. To those that already have, I truly appreciate your support and you inspire me to keep going.
