This diary is inspired by the events of the MURDER of Trayvon Martin, and this recommended diary by mallyroyal. Today, we are all Trayvon Martin, who was gunned down by a hateful bigot for doing nothing more than walking in the wrong neighborhood while black. And this guy might just get away with it, because of some insane Florida law that makes it legal to shoot anyone one deems as a threat.
If the Martin family is denied justice, we are all denied justice. We are all unsafe. We are all subject to "lawful" murder if we are walking in the wrong place at the wrong time and just happen to look poor, or like a minority, or different. If we let this guy get away with this murder, we all condone what happened to Trayvon. And that is an absolute miscarriage of justice.
I am as white as a sheet, I have never felt that I was the wrong skin color to walk in a neighborhood. None of us should have to live in a world where walking in a neighborhood with the wrong color of skin will get you shot and killed. EVERYONE should be safe walking in ANY neighborhood they chose, without fearing for their life because of the color of their skin, just like I do. Enough is enough.
Solidarity.
