The only problem? Yeah, that isn't Bono. It's a Bono impersonator. You might have been cued into that from the part where he doesn't really look or sound like Bono, but that is because you are a super genius. Jason Mattera, the merely supposedly goddamn brilliant right-wing "journalist" in question, wasn't able to figure that out. Neither was Sean Hannity, who praised Mattera for his scoop. How did you manage to snag an interview with Bono, Hannity asked? "Basic shoeleather journalism," said Mattera, by which he meant he hung around someplace looking for famous liberals to ambush and picked the first guy who sorta looked like another guy who he really really hated because Environmentalism and Feeding Kids and oh we hate him so much just thinking about it!
The transcript of the ambush interview is especially hilarious:
Bono: It's not my company.Whooo! Scoop! This evasiveness by the guy who sorta looked like Bono was pilloried roundly by Sean Hannity and Mattera, since clearly not-Bono was hiding something. Glenn Beck's website, The Blaze, ran with it too. How dare Bono dismiss their very serious allegations!
Mattera: You have no say in what U2 does?
Bono: Not particularly.
Mattera: You don't? You don't have a say in what U2 does?
No doubt Hannity, Mattera and the Breitbart Brigades are working as we speak on some reason why the dirty liberals are responsible for this trickery, and that should be entertaining too. For now, though, we'll have to make do with admiring just how ridiculous amateur conservative "journalism" has become.
