To paraphrase...
How dare that guy get more sympathetic media attention than Rush Limbaugh! How dare the AP write such a despicable story about fuel efficient cars! How dare the media report drilling doesn't affect the price of gas! (Yawn...)
Rush seemed a little stuck on the idea Obama could say he was 'laying pipe,' a term with it's own innuendos. Obama wants to say he's laid more pipe than Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Somehow, Rush sidelined that no one wanted to see the breakup of the Black Family during a rant about oil and Keystone XL. That stray sentence in a bit about AP's stories, and more complaining about President Obama. Rush can't control what's really inside him. Or when it comes out. He is no help to anyone's brand as he continues to speak as he does.
Below, today's WABC AM 770 Tracking.
UPDATE - 6:20 Twitter Tracking.
Compared random group of names from both lists. Found 41% duplicates from a test sample of 200 followers are on both of his lists. That's using a 100 newest from one, and 100 older from another. In a pool of 1,000 addresses.
I don't see how he can truthfully claim 300,000 Twitter Followers. That number is crucial to proving he has any valid pull, to hear him go on about it. He could be off as little as 25%, or as much as 50%. I'm sure the Secret Service pays much more attention to it than I ever will.
Pretty easy to have two addresses, add them together, and say that's how many followers one has. Until you compare the two lists, and find duplicates in the first ten comparisons you make.
Which is what I did last night, and found - from the first ten names searched on the first address - five exact matches were also following on the second. The first address is older, the second more recent, following the Fluke fiasco and iPad contest.
Here's what I did :
1. Open both addresses.
2. Scrolled down a few times. Made more names appear, of course.
3. Opened a blank word processing document.
4. From each page, did a 'Select All' and 'Copy.'
5. Pasted each 'Copy' to the word processing document.
6. Picked ten names, and did a 'find' for that name.
7. When I got a result, put a number next to it.
8. Found the five dupes from the first ten names on the first - older - list.
Yes, there are programs that flag all dupes. Just wasn't using that one. Feel free if you do.
Unknown what would happen if I started from the newer and compared to the older. You could also create two documents, and have the older on top of one, newer on top of the other. I just didn't expect to find so much duplication in so few followers. And since the newer list happened because of the iPad contest, it would seem logical people would register on both to increase their chances. There is no true way of knowing his 'unique' followers unless Twitter tells. And why should they? They've been neutral about everything. Why change now?
Tomorrow ends the two week self-imposed 'cooling off' period by Premiere. Figuring out which sponsors want to continue associating with the show, and which ones who don't was the reason for that action. Next week we'll know which sponsors agree with Rush.
In Los Angeles, the City Council wants to change the tone of radio. There's a touch of censorship in the plan, which also wants more diversity on the air. Which means finding the sponsors to pay for that. For all the time I've been checking, there's no polar opposite of Limbaugh in liberal media. Which suggests the audience isn't there to support it, to sponsors who might.
My personal view is still that someone as incendiary as Limbaugh should be on a 'pay to listen' medium like Sirius XM (I hold no stock in it.) His genre of talk should not be on free to access public airwaves. He seems to feel he has influence over many people who just aren't really there.
Today's tracking. And that Toyota spot seems to be a 'station buy,' for the curious.
