Via Politico, Mitt Romney fields
a nasty question from a Ron Paul supporter:
Questioner: "OK, well, in the Mormon book it says there were a blight cast on all the children of Canaan.”
Romney: “I’m sorry. We’re just not going to have a discussion about religion in my view, but if you have a question, I’ll be happy to answer your question.”
Questioner: "I guess my question is, do you believe it’s a sin for a white man to marry and procreate with a black?”
Romney: "No, next question."
Number one, ugh, and number two, I long for the day when Republicans shrink back from having "a discussion about religion in my view." The whole damn campaign has been about them having discussions of religion in
their views, or at least what everyone else should be believing.
I don't think Mitt's religion is going to be a campaign issue—but I'm not a wingnut who obsesses over these things, so I suppose I don't know that for sure. I didn't think Barack Obama would be roundly and persistently attacked for his religion, either, but those attacks have been going on for a solid four years now.
So it might be a lovely idea (just thinking outside the box here) maybe for Mitt, Ricky and the others would keep their damn hands off the rest of our religions too. For example, if your religion says birth control is "controversial," that's lovely—but when you try to enforce that upon the rest of us, piss off. Right? Could we maybe give that a try?
