I'm sad to say we live in a country where a lot of people complain vehmently against the government mandating health insurance for their bodies, but don't say shit about the government mandating insurance for their cars and trucks.
Apparently, an American's tire pressure is more important than his blood pressure...right?
To me this whole health care challenge is just another manefestation of racists' resistance to the legitimacy of Barack Obama's presidency. It might be an extreme view, but I believe these racists can't stand the thought of being mandated to do anything by a black man -- even to the detriment of their own health. It's like they're saying: "I'd rather see my whole family die from cancer than be told what to do by that n****r."
I don't think the President did himself or the Affordable Health Care for America Act any favors by recently expressing confidence that the health law will be upheld and taking a shot at the Supreme Court by saying, “I’d just remind conservative commentators that for years, what we’ve heard is the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law.” He's right, but that kind of statement will only embolden, unify and stiffen the resolve of the conservative justices who are acting as proxies for those wingnuts who despise the President and want him to fail by any means necessary.
These toads are simply more interested in embarrassing President Obama and stripping him of his signature legislative accomplishment. Above all, they want to deny him a second term. Sen. Mitch McConnell is on the record saying that's their top priority. Not fixing the economy. Not ending all these senseless military misadventures. Not curbing nuclear proliferation. And certainly not ensuring that all Americans have access to affordable health care.
And much of it is driven by racial animosity...not all of it, but much of it. They'd prefer to see our country fail rather than see it flourish under the leadership of a black man.
It makes me ill, but fortunately I'm covered...at least for now.
