Remember when the Romney people put out an ad in which it showed President Obama saying "if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose?" Then it came out that the statement was taken out of context and that the President was quoting Sen. McCain, only they cut off the part where the President said he was quoting McCain. Apparently, it was so blatant, even the media couldn't avoid reporting it. Well, it's happening once again. Only this time, the media is repeating the lie as if it were true. The President didn't say anything about "unelected" judges (justices). He was merely quoting opponents of activist judges. Specifically, "conservative commentators." All the questions about whether it was wise for him to "insult" the Court by indicating that they were "unelected" is just an unfair meme of a lazy media. Listen to the video below the squiggly.
What he said before this particular issue is worth listening to, as he describes, in human terms, what has already been accomplished by ObamaCare. The part that is misquoted begins around 4:10.
"Ultimately I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.
And I just remind conservative commentators that for years what we've heard is the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint; that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law. Well, this is a good example, and I'm pretty confident that this Court will recognized that and not take that step."
I'm not a lawyer, and I have no idea how what this president says impacts the Court. However, I trust that he knows. Apparently, the Court voted last Friday, and are now just putting together their justification for their decision. If that's the case, whatever he says now is for us. We, the people, have to know that it was the evil Court that took away what he tried to give. By the media repeating the meme that he's hurting his (our) cause, they're hurting his ability to win on this one. Media: Quote my president properly, or STFU.
