VERY short diary: Can anyone tell me who these people are?
New Renaissance in Education
I'm asking because: I live in a rural county in Eastern Virginia, bordered by the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. We are in the Virginia House of Delegates 99th District and we have an active "99th District Tea Party" in the area.
Next week their meeting features a speaker from NRIE and I'd like to know more about the organization so I can rip into them in letters to the editors of our local and regional newspapers.
More below the little squiggly thing.
Because a rep from NRIE is speaking to our local Teahadists, and, because their website seems to focus on computerized learning, I suspect NRIE is part of the rightwing attack on public education.
As I look deeper into their website, I see their focus is on "teaching American values to future generations." And those values are: Liberty and Limited Govenrment, America's Documents, Free Market Economics, Western Intellectual Tradition . . . you get the picture.
Other aspects of their website:
-- Part of their mission statement is to "Advocate the initiation of American History Month in our schools, similar to Black History Month . . . "
-- Their explanation as to why they exist states: "In short, our education system strengthens ties to socialism, progressive movements, and 'globalism'
while weakening the ties that bind Americans to our own heritage and greatness."
-- I would include more quotes from their site but I really don't want to puke on my keyboard.
Just wondering if anyone has any background info on them, or, has anyone encountered NRIE?
Thanks.
