The GOP outrage machine is now outraged that we are calling their push to destroy women's rights a "war," because supposedly this denigrates our troops in Afghanistan and recently in Iraq.
I supposed they were similarly outraged by LBJ's "War on Poverty," and the Reagan on down "War on Drugs," and GWB's "War on Terrorism?"
I didn't think so.
But let's humor them. We need a new name for the War on Women. I've got some ideas.
How about "assault" instead of war? They are mounting an assault on reproductive freedom and women's health care. Since it's directed mostly toward one gender, I think "sexual" belongs in there. So how about:
The GOP Sexual Assault on Women
Like that one?
Oh... OK. Don't like that one. Let's try again.
We can start by eliminating the loaded words. Let's bend over to give them what they want ... (No? It's OK. I meant figuratively.) How about, "campaign?"
It's been a concerted campaign to roll back women's access to privacy about their health care choices. Letting your employer determine whether you have access to birth control. Letting your state lawmakers decide whether you have to be pregnant. So, we have:
The Republican Campaign to Peek Under Women's Skirts
Hmmmm... No? OK, lets try again.
The GOP Campaign to Get Their Hands On Women's Genitals
Still not neutral enough?
What about focusing on end results?
The Republican Plan to Kill Women by Denying Them Health Care So They Won't Vote For Democrats
That almost captures the stupidity of the whole thing, but it's kinda warlike, don't you think?
What about full disclosure:
The Incredibly Self-Destructive GOP Attempt to Push Women Back Into the Mythical Olden Days When Women Were Entirely Under the Thumb of the Men in Their Lives
Hmmm... not very catchy, is it?
What about an acronym?
Dumb Ideas Currently Kicking Healthcare Easily At Democrats
I'm not sure what that really means, but it's a kickass acronym!
So, what do you think we should rename the Republican War on Women?
