The current political culture in the United States is hard to figure out. In today's technological scheme of things, the individual is more empowered than any time since we became a sovereign nation and yet we choose to disconnect ourselves from the most important issues that could very well determine our survival as a species. SEE! Get too deep and off we go to something more interesting like how to get the latest Iphone or the next movie coming out at the theater.I'm not scolding here;I'm just observing; I'm just as prone to checking- out as the next person.
It reminds me of the story about the guy that came into the theater, ran up on the stage before the live performance was to begin and asked everyone to leave because there was a fire in the building. Remember that one? The audience applauded and cheered for how convincing he was and stayed in their seats waiting for the next part of the show. The anecdotal outcome is not hard to guess. Maybe it's so simple that it is hard to believe it could happen like, Jim Jones and his famous kool-aid, most of us think we know the warning signs.
I've done some traveling in the past year or so, primarily in the Northwest and my impression has been contoured by the population density of the locations I have visited. The more isolated the community, the less concern about social issues. The far reaching "one size fits all" federal government regulations don't sit too well with rural Americans. Can't live without laws and regulations in the cities and the suburbs, too many people and everyone wants what's coming to them or protection from the next guy.
How do we protect ourselves from all the lying and propaganda? How do we sift through all the BS that comes at us from all the the different media sources like tornado storms that wreak havoc on our sense of well-being? We look toward less intense subjects of course. We all do or we'd go crazy. My adult children seem to insulate themselves from politics and world events quite well and they should be able to do that but unfortunately, I fear that by the time they find they have a voice in such matters, that inalienable right to speak out might be gone.
In comes the man and steps on the stage. His anxiety is controlled by the need to get his message across, " The theater is on fire!" he shouts. What do you think? Do you go with what you believe or do you go with the facts? Do you run or do you stay and put it off a little longer to see what happens next? Is this guy a paid actor or is it an unselfish act? I'd play it safe; you know why? The guy with the pants on fire...usually doesn't lie.
