Oh those dumb Democrats again, just the same as Republicans (really no difference!), except they brought the Buffett Rule (increase taxes on millionaires to about the same as the rest of us have to pay) to the floor for a vote, apparently taking the advice of some Kossacks who believe all you need to do to pass a bill is bring it to a vote.
Except that it got killed, again,, by that stupid freaking antiquated filibuster rule.
We had 50 Democratic votes and a cross-over Republican (one Dem from Ark voted against).
We had 72% of the American public behind us.
And.it.didn't.matter.
It's time to end the filibuster. Not just because we're in power...I would feel the same way if the Republicans were in power, or if I knew for sure they would retake the Senate in November. To only oppose the filibuster rule when your party is in power is hypocrisy and lack of principle. The filibuster is wrong, it's undemocratic, and we have a federalist system that provides checks and balances to the Senate, including another house of Congress, an Executive, and a Judicial that can all check a Senate action.
Call or write your Senator and tell them you oppose the filibuster and will hold them accountable if they vote to keep it the next time the matter comes up.
Oh, and GFY Mitch McConnell. It's not about "pitting Americans against each other", because the current tax code and trade policy already does that. It's about increasing your income during tough times, which even the most conservative financial expert would suggest is a good idea.
