International maritime law dictates that if a vessel is in distress you MUST render aid. This is to prevent unnecessary death and suffering on the open seas. But Princess Cruises doesn't think saving lives is as important as making a profit.
The tale of three fishermen who were spotted by passengers on the Star Princess desperately trying to signal the ship. The captain decided to continue sailing. And did not even bother to notify the local coast guard to rescue the poor souls. Two of the three men died in the weeks before they were spotted again and rescued.
Princess Cruises was too busy raking in $4,590.00* per person on a 14 story vessel to save two lives.
It was international news recently when a small fishing boat was found adrift in the Pacific Ocean, several hundred miles from the Panama town where it launched. After 28 days at sea, only one of the three men who had been onboard was still alive. The other two died from lack of water and exposure.
Now there are allegations that weeks earlier, while all of the men were still alive, an American-based cruise ship, the Star Princess, spotted the drifting boat — but sailed on without stopping to help.
The Star Princess is a luxury cruise ship operated by Carnival. It has four pools, a nine-hole putting green, a casino, and cabins for some 2,000 passengers.
Winner videotaped his interview with the survivor and posted it on his blog, Panama-Guide.com. Vasquez said he remembered a big white ship that passed on the horizon.
"For a minute it looked like they were going to turn to come for us," Winner translated, " but then they just went on their way."
Heartrendingly callous in the pursuit of profit.
Instead of firing the captain as soon as the story surfaced Princess Cruises first tried to maintain the captains lie. Now they are investigating.
So please not only boycott these horrid sailors. But feel free to contact their company and let them know just what you think of the suffering they could have easily prevented.
