These days a lot of people are saying a lot of crazy nut-bag stuff. Ann Coulter used to be the undisputed queen of the crazy, with Michelle Malkin barking at her heels. Now we get the crazy from Newt (Moon Base Factor 5) Gingrich, Rick (Contraceptives are Bad) Santorum, Allen (Progressives are Communists) West, and Virginia (Students Loans are Evil) Foxx.
So these days, Coulter has to say something that displays a Special K Brand of Crazy to get noticed among the nut-bag din. Therefore we have a situation where she suggests that the solution for Black people like Trayvon Martin - who was a minor - being profiled is for them to Get More Guns.
Yes, really - as if America doesn't already have enough of them.
(Sorry - Embed isn't working)
“We don’t know the facts yet, but let’s assume the conclusion MSNBC is leaping to is accurate: George Zimmerman stalked a small black child and murdered him in cold blood, just because he was black,” Coulter wrote in a column titled “Negroes with Guns.”
“If that were true, every black person in America should get a gun and join the National Rifle Association, America’s oldest and most august civil rights organization.”
Uh, What!!!??
But wait, it gets worse.
Yeah, I can see how Black People are going to feel extreme comfortable palling around with people like this.
Back to Coulter.
“It was the Republican Party and the NRA that has always supported arming blacks in order to protect themselves from the Democratic Ku Klux Klan,” she explained.
O’Reilly summed up Coulter’s argument: “So what you’re saying is if MSNBC’s and NBC News’ hypothesis is true that this was a racially-biased driven murder, that all African Americans should take that as a warning sign and arm themselves against that happening to them. Therefore, they should support the NRA, they should support he the law that allows you to fight back if threatened and they should arm themselves.”
“Yes,” Coulter agreed. “And the reason I thought of it is because liberals are leaping to exactly the opposite conclusion that, ‘Oh, we have to get rid of these Stand Your Ground laws.’ They’re against easy issuing of concealed carry permits. As well as I point out in my column, Martin Luther King Jr., a Christian minister under constant death threats, applied for a gun permit after his house was fire bombed and the Alabama authorities, under the discretionary gun permit law, said, ‘No. No, this Christian minister is not suitable for a gun permit.’ That’s how discretionary permits work. The history books will often try and twist the history by referring to the KKK and the racist as Southerners. Oh, no, no, no. The Republicans in the South weren’t discriminatory. … The one thing all of the discriminators and the KKK sympathizers — or KKK themselves — had in common was they were all Democrats.”
So let's get this straight here, her ideas is that Trayvon Martin - a 17-year-old - should have had a concealed carry permit, and been packing a 9mm just like George Zimmerman and then, and only then, would he be safe?
That if only Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had been granted a gun permit, he wouldn't have been shot in the throat by a sniper?
How would that work exactly?
And what's this mess about the NRA being a "Civil Rights Organization"? That's not how they started out, they were a marksmanship club and shooting team formed by former Civil War Soldiers in 1871. Yes, that does predate the NAACP which was formed in 1909, but their purposes were entirely different. The NAACP was formed to combat Lynchings of Black People and began fighting that through the courts from it's inception. The NRA from it's beginning was focused on improving the marksmanship of U.S. soldiers exclusively until their legislative arm was formed in 1934 in support of the National Firearms Act, 25 Years after the NAACP was formed.
As to the issue of the KKK being connected with the Democratic Party - as the old Deep Throat character from the X-Files used to say, "A lie is best contained between two truths" - in this case what she claims is true, but is also a lie. The KKK were actually linked with Dixiecrats who were in truth unrepentant Confederates who resented Lincoln the first Republican President. They were also something else, they were Conservatives.
After passage of the Civil Rights Act, those Conservatives Left the Democratic Party in Droves led by the late U.S. Senator Strom Thurman. They became Republicans.
It was Republican Presidential Candidate Barry Goldwater who opposed the Civil Rights Act, not just Southern Dixiecrats like Thurman or the late Democratic Senator Byrd.
And today the KKK and those who oppose Civil Rights are STILL Republicans and Conservatives.
What Party did former Grand Wizard David Duke run under? Republican.
What Party has both Ron and Rand Paul who have both echoed the Goldwater objection to the Civil Rights Act, arguing that Property Rights are More important than Civil Rights? Republican.
The argument that the KKK is exclusively or totally "Democratic" is just plain bull crap.
But let's get to the deeper issue, the view that "Stand Your Ground" is a good thing in general for Black people - but gee - if only more of them were armed people would just leave them alone.
Yeah, uh huh.
It was because a 9-11 caller lied when he claimed he was robbed at gunpoint, that police shot and killed 19-year-old Kendrec McDade in Pasadena last month. Kendrec wasn't armed, and he also wasn't the right person.
Here's video of Police Shooting and Killing 22 year-old Shonchy Thaopraseuth because he had a gun. Allegedly.
The claim was that Patrick Dorismond had a gun, when Police shot and killed him. He didn't.
They said they thought Amadour Diallo had a gun, He didn't.
And there have been many, many others.
2003: While surrendering on his knees in front of four Las Vegas police officers, Orlando Barlow is shot with an assault rifle by officer Brian Hartman from 50 feet away. Hartman argued that he feared Barlow was feigning surrender and about to grab a gun. Barlow was unarmed.
2006: Just hours before his wedding, 23-year-old Sean Bell leaves the strip club hosting his bachelor party, jumps into a car with two friends, and is killed when police fire 50 shots into his vehicle, wounding his friends. Police say they opened fire after Bell rammed his car into an unmarked police van filled with plainclothes officers. They say they followed Bell and his friends outside the club suspecting that one person in their group had a gun. Referring to Bell and his friends, Mayor Bloomberg told the Associated Press "there is no evidence that they did anything wrong."
2009: On New Years morning, three Bay Area Rapid Transit officers pull 22-year-old Oscar Grant and four other black men off a train in Oakland. You can view what happened afterwards in this Youtube video. In it, now former-transit officer Mehserle can be seen shooting Grant in the back. During the trial, Mehserle argued that he thought Grant was reaching for a gun near his waistband.
As I type this, I'm listening to the Zimmerman bail hearing where George himself took the stand and claimed he thought Trayvon was an adult and
he didn't know if he was armed or not.
So Zimmy claims his assumption going into their confrontation was that Trayvon could be armed and he simply acted accordingly?
Just like Police did with McDade, and Dorismond and Diallo and hundreds upon hundreds of others I guess. Hmm.
Yeah, let's have more of that. Not.
