I see having an interest in Zucotti Park by a Brookfield Security "portfolio manager" but a park in Washington D.C. too? Have the tentacles of corporate greed really entwined themselves into the day to day operations of our government so far that they do their bidding at the drop of a hat?
"Ahem excuse me Federal Employee there are some dirty fucking hippies complaining about starving, or homelessness, or something. Make them go away."
According to 77 pages of documents released by the U.S. Park Police in response to a FOIA request, the owner of Zuccotti Park, Brookfield Properties, contacted the USPP regarding a possible eviction of an Occupy DC encampment just 48 hours before the NYPD raided Zuccotti Park. "I have received several e-mailed [sic] from across the country I. e. Denver and Portland about police taking action against protest encampments located in the City parks," Brookfield's portfolio manager Don Orcutt wrote to the USPP.
The documents and emails [pdf] were released at the request of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, the NLG, and Michael Moore, and also show that the USPP was engaged in a dialogue with the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security.
Starting at the bottom of page 9 there is an email from a Donald Orcutt of Admiral Security Co.(Brookfield subsidiary) asking the National Park Service about Occupiers being evicted from McPherson square in Washington D.C.PDF
Sorry, The screen grab of the document is not working at all for some reason.
I find this odd as Admiral Security is part of Brookfield Properties and McPherson Square is part of our Federal Parks. Why would this company that is in New York be concerned with an Occupation in D.C.? Why are they confident they can ask the National Park service to do their bidding? Why are they referring to evictions in Portland and Denver as justification to evict the protesters in D.C.?
McPherson Square was evicted 48 hours after that email was sent by the way.
